Harvard Law–educated Los Angeles tenant lawyer appears twice a month on Visión Latina’s Mañana Latina, a live, national Spanish-language morning show, helping renters understand that California law is on their side.

LOS ANGELES — Cockroaches in the kitchen. Bedbugs in the children’s beds. Peeling lead paint and a heater that leaks carbon monoxide. For many California renters, this isn’t an emergency — it’s everyday life, and many don’t know the law is on their side. Twice a month, Los Angeles tenant attorney Eric Castelblanco, founder of the habitability law firm Castelblanco Law Group, sets the record straight as a regular legal contributor on Mañana Latina, the live national morning program on the Visión Latina network, with a 10-minute segment on tenants’ rights.

In each segment, Castelblanco explains what tenants can do about the problems families face most often: cockroach and bedbug infestations, child lead poisoning, carbon monoxide poisoning, and injuries from accidents on rental property — problems that, under California law, can be the result of landlord negligence. His goal is simple: to make California habitability law and tenants’ rights relatable and easy to understand for tenants who may not realize the law protects them.

Mañana Latina — often compared to a Spanish-language Good Morning America — invites Castelblanco back because he has become a trusted legal voice for the Latino community and beyond. He has built a reputation for explaining complex legal rights in plain, practical terms.

“Too many California tenants believe they have no choice but to live with cockroaches, bedbugs, lead paint or a dangerous gas leak,” said Castelblanco. “Under California habitability law, landlords have a legal duty to keep apartments safe and healthy. My goal on Mañana Latina is to make tenants’ rights simple to understand, so families know the law is on their side and that help is available.”

A tenant rights attorney devoted to safe, healthy homes

Castelblanco founded Castelblanco Law Group in 1997. Under his leadership, the firm has represented more than 10,000 tenants and recovered more than $350 million in settlements and verdicts against negligent landlords and property owners. Every attorney at the firm speaks Spanish, so clients speak directly with the lawyer handling their case — never through a translator.

His dedication to improving the lives of families living in unsafe and unhealthy apartments has earned wide recognition. The Harvard Law Bulletin dubbed him a “slum-buster,” the tenant group Inquilinos Unidos honored him as a “Housing Champion,” and he has been recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer. His work has been featured on ABC, CBS, NBC, KTLA and TV Azteca.

A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Castelblanco immigrated to the United States as a boy and was raised in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and Harvard Law School. He serves on the Harvard Law School Leadership Council, has mentored students through the law school’s Alumni in Residence program, and is a Trustee of Loyola Marymount University.

Beyond the television studio, Castelblanco hosts two programs on his YouTube channel and podcast platforms:

  • Vivamos: Latino Stories of Success — the podcast invites accomplished entrepreneurs and leaders from the Latino community to share, in their own words, how they broke barriers and built success. Recent guests include Franky Carrillo, who spent 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit; motivational speaker Ovi Vásquez; Hollywood film producer Hernany Perla; and author Erica Alfaro, the daughter of immigrant farmworkers.
  • Vivamos Mejor: Real Stories of Tenant Justice — Vivamos Mejor features families describing how they survived unsafe housing and won. In one recent episode, a mother and daughter recount years spent living with cockroaches, bedbugs and rodents while their landlord ignored the problem — and how they finally secured a settlement.

Where to watch and listen: Both Vivamos: Latino Stories of Success and Vivamos Mejor are available on YouTube at @VivamosByCastelblanco, as well as on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Music.
